Your first consultation will usually be longer than subsequent sessions. Most of the first session will involve gathering detailed information on your presenting condition/s. You will be asked about your medical history and your current general health in relation to a number of areas such as energy levels, sleep, digestion, etc.
Two important diagnostic tools used in TCM are palpation of the radial (wrist) pulses and an examination of the tongue. You may also receive a physical examination, this is particularly important when presenting with musculo-skeletal complaints.
The diagnostic findings will be explained to you in clear and straight-forward language. If a course of treatment is appropriate, we can agree a treatment plan outlining the number and frequency of treatments.
In general, acute conditions tend to respond more favourably to frequent treatments over a short period. By comparison, chronic or complex conditions will require treatment extending over many weeks or months although there are likely to be longer intervals between each treatment.
